EVENTS
The events of greatest interest for the city of Pistoia are the following:
- “Pistoian July” activities which see the city as the protagonist for the entire month of July of musical events of national importance (blues festival) day and night market various craftsmanship throughout the historic center (for the duration of the blues festival) event folkloristic (costume parades), historical games (the bear carousel), music concerts classical and operatic, fashion shows.
- Feast of San Bartolomeo, celebrated every year on August 24th with the participation of the centre historical and in particular of the picturesque area adjacent to the church of San Bartolomeo in Pantano (in which the rite of anointing to protect against accidents is celebrated) that comes used as a games and sweets market to celebrate the patron saint of children.
- Night opening of the shops in the historic center and market of artisan products in the most characteristic streets of the center every Thursday in the months of June and July, in addition to normal Saturday morning and Wednesday morning markets in the Piazza del Duomo and in the Square of the Holy Spirit.
- In the Pistoia hamlet of Badia a Pacciana, every year, for a week in the month of September, the historic medieval costume festival is held, which takes place in the picturesque area of the abbey and includes art exhibitions, classical and operatic music concerts, costume parades, and every evening, in the large area surrounding the abbey, catering activities with typical Tuscan products.
- In the province of Pistoia, in the nearby municipalities of Agliana and Quarrata they are held respectively in the month of June and in the month of September event for the duration of the whole month, with art exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts, fashion shows, activities folkloristic and gastronomic events open to the public.
- In Monsummano Terme, in the province of Pistoia, every year in March the event called “chocolaty” with focused events, exhibitions and tasting on chocolate; the province of Pistoia is in fact renowned for the presence of two producers artisanal chocolate products, winners of national awards (Slitti in Monsummano Terme and Catinari to Agliana)
- For enthusiasts, there are sporting events of great appeal: the competition cycling competition Prato – Abetone (every year in July), the running competition Pistoia-Abetone, the Pistoia rally on 8 April and the international Firs and Abetone rally (on the Pistoia mountains).
PLACES
Among the places of greatest interest in the city of Pistoia and within its province are the following:
- Civic museum: located in the municipal building in Piazza del Duomo, it houses numerous works of Florentine and Pistoia painting from the 13th to the 15th century. And from the 17th to the 18th century. , the collection Puccini, the center dedicated to the internationally renowned Pistoia architect Giovanni Michelucci.
- Rospigliosi Museum, located in the historic building of Ripa del sale, preserves a rich collection of works of art, furniture and furnishings from the 17th century.
- Capitular Museum, located in the ancient palace of the Bishops in Piazza Duomo, houses, among other things an important collection of sacred furnishings.
- Marino Marini Museum, dedicated entirely to the works and life of the famous artist.
- Jorio Vivarelli foundation, located in the immediate vicinity of Pistoia, (Arcigliano), it is equipped with a photo library and an accounting library upon reservation.
- Pistoia Underground: it is a complex cultural and historical project that includes museums, libraries, archive and guided tours of the city’s underground places.
